Destination Maldives: Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa

The family-friendly resort offers a blend of luxury, convenience and eco-consciousness.

The Maldives has been a bucket list destination for many travellers, and Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, located on the trailblazing island of Furanafushi with a 50-year history, is the perfect gateway to the Maldives.

FACT recently spent three days at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort and Spa on the North Malé Atoll, but rather than relaxing on the sandy shores and within the swimming pools’ pristine waters. We took to the waves for snorkelling adventures, as well as planting our feet firmly on land for culinary experiences. You see, the Maldives is about more than just romance and offers plenty of options for keeping the entire family occupied.

Convenience

One of the most appealing aspects of the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is its proximity to the Maldivian capital city of Malé and the Velana International Airport. Located a quick 15-minute speedboat ride away from the airport, the resort offers a smooth and easy arrival for guests, allowing them to transition seamlessly from their flight to the serene paradise of the Maldives. The convenient location is particularly beneficial for families with young children or travellers looking to maximize their time relaxing in the atoll.

Luxury amenities

Staying in one of the spacious beachfront villas, we had a front-row seat to watch the waves of the Indian Ocean from our private pool in the beautifully landscaped villa garden. The villa’s luxurious bathroom was designed to feel as though you are outdoors while being happily enclosed by walls of glass. The bathroom’s natural stone and wood elements blend seamlessly with the garden, creating a tranquil and spa-like ambience. The resort also features overwater villas and the more family-friendly lagoon villas.

Dining

Offering something for everyone, the resort has a fantastic selection of restaurants to choose from, including local Maldivian to Thai, Mediterranean, Mexican, Asian, Indian and Italian cuisines alongside international favourites. Each restaurant has its own unique atmosphere and special touches. We particularly enjoyed dining at Kakuni Hut. Located on the shores of a picturesque lagoon, this charming eatery offered a delightful blend of casual beachside dining with a vibrant Mexican cuisine. The tacos were a standout, with options ranging from succulent grilled shrimp to tender beef and flavorful chicken. For a more intimate dinner on the waterfront, Seasalt Italian restaurant offers diners a romantic candlelit experience with fresh seafood prepared to your liking.

Spa

Set on a small private island, the Shine Spa is a short scenic walk or bike ride away from the villas, connected to the main resort by a picturesque wooden bridge. After a day of travel, we decided to indulge in some relaxation, selecting a tailor-made Balinese massage from the vast list of treatments offered. After a warm welcome and introduction to our masseuses, we were lulled by the soothing sounds of the ocean and the gentle, aromatic fragrance in the air which set the perfect tone. Emerging from the sanctuary of the Spa with a renewed sense of energy and harmony, ready to enjoy the rest of our Maldivian holiday.

Sunset cruise

Our days were filled with the many activities on offer from the resort including snorkeling, kayaking, basket weaving, and coconut tree climbing, but a true highlight was the sunset cruise. Our sunset dolphin cruise exceeded all expectations, as we were lucky enough that just 20 minutes into our journey we were graced with the presence of multiple pods of dolphins. Watching in awe as they leapt and spun alongside the boat, with a beautiful sunset in the background, was a magical moment.

Coral preservation

A true standout of the Sheraton Maldives is their commitment to improving the environment around the island, and part of that mission is to rebuild coral reefs that have been destroyed. A very special and everlasting activity that we took part in was the coral restoration program. We had the unique opportunity to learn about the delicate marine ecosystem and contribute to its preservation by planting coral fragments. This hands-on experience was both educational and rewarding, giving us a deeper appreciation for the natural beauty surrounding us.
